Karen is a 15-year veteran public school music educator with experience teaching instrumental and vocal courses. Karen obtained both her undergraduate and graduate degrees in music education at Norfolk State University. Karen continued her education at Regent University, obtaining both her Educational Specialist and Doctorate degrees in Educational Leadership with a concentration in Educational Technology and Online Learning.
Karen has taught music at the elementary, middle, and high school levels along with serving as an online adjunct collegiate instructor of music history. During her collegiate studies, she studied bassoon, flute, and vocal performance. Karen also maintained a focus in music theory and music technology. Her expertise and experience combined when the Virginia Department of Education hired her to build the High School Music Technology and Grade 8 General Music online courses for their K-12 online school, Virtual Virginia. Karen is a proud member of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) and the National Association for Teachers of Singing (NATS), both of which ensure she is provided continual updates to the best practices for music education.
